This FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) is designed to help orient you to our club. Its contents include:
How do I join the club?If you are new to rowing and interested in lessons or an experienced rower that wants to join the club, please contact Theresa Tompkins via email membership@barchouston.org.
In order to join the club, you must either be going through the BARC training system (formal or private classes or other club-approved program) or have prior rowing experience. Those with prior rowing experience are REQUIRED to have their expertise checked out by an "approved" club instructor/agent in order to ensure your safety and that of the clubs resources.
Each prospective member must complete the Membership Data Sheet and Liability Waiver prior to participating in any club activity or use club equipment or facilities. Completed forms should be placed in the MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR mail folder located in the filing cabinet next to the sign-out desk and a call or email to me is greatly appreciated. Along with this information, new members should also submit a check payable to BARC covering their membership fees. Membership dues and boat storage fees are normally paid on a quarterly basis with members receiving invoices in their newsletters.
A Membership Handbook can be obtained from the boathoue. We strongly encourage you to become familiar with the contents of the Membership Handbook. It outlines club policies, boathouse procedures, safety concerns, etc. Understanding this document will make time spent on the water an enjoyable experience for both you and other BARC members. We also encourage members to join the United States Rowing Association (USRA). A membership application for it can be obtained at the boathouse as well. (Back to top)
