Joining BARC

Those who have successfully completed all four sessions of a rowing course class or have prior rowing experience and have been successfully checked out, may join BARC for the applicable quarterly fee. We have rates for individuals, families, and students. Fee structures and instructions are indicated below.

BARC-Trained Rowers

If you successfully completed all four sessions of a BARC rowing course during the spring or summer of the current year, congratulations!

To join, simply email classes@barchouston.org with the subject line "Learn to Row grad to join BARC."

In the body of the message let the treasurer know if you're joining as an individual, a family, or a student.

The treasurer will send you an invoice that you can pay online.

You will also receive a welcome email from the club membership director with useful information.

Experienced Rowers

If you are an experienced rower and would like to be checked out, please follow these steps:

  1. Request a check out with our Membership Director, membership@barchouston.org. Please indicate in your email your availability for the week and weekend. Please summarize your previous rowing experience.
  2. Upon mutually agreeing on a checkout date with our Membership Director, download and review our New Member Check Out rowing form. This form covers all items/areas that our Membership Director and/or designated BARC checkout representative will cover with you. Please print out this form and bring it with you.
  3. Submit, complete, and/or update your USRowing Online Waiver. You will need to know your USRowing number for our membership form.
  4. Download, print, fill out, sign and then turn in your annual BARC Annual Medical Form (sealed in an envelope, per instructions) to the boathouse.
  5. Bring your New Member Check Out and BARC Annual Medical forms with you to your checkout row. If you are a college student, please bring your Student ID as well.
  6. If you pass your checkout row, complete and submit our New Member Registration form.

By way of submitting our New Member Registration form, you will be able to provide additional information and agree to the club's terms needed to complete your enrollment as a BARC rower. You will also receive club dues (membership fees) payment instructions.
